THEATRE director Christopher Luscombe and conductor Clemens Schuldt are among the many creatives who will be making their debuts at Garsington Opera for the 2023 season.
The opera festival, which is held each summer at the Wormsley estate near Stokenchurch, will run from Wednesday, May 31 to Sunday, July 23.
This season features three new productions and one revival, opening with Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville).
Directed by Luscombe, this new production of the comic opera tells a story of bribery, deception and disguise and how true love can win over greed.
Also making their debuts in the show are American tenor Andrew Stenson as Count Almaviva and German baritone Johannes Kammler as Figaro. Katie Bray is Rosina.
Sung in Italian with English supertitles, it will run from Wednesday, May 31 to Saturday, July 22.
This will be followed by a new production of Mitridate, re di Ponto, Mozart’s tale of the warrior king of Pontus and his two sons, Farnace and Sifare, who are all in love with the same woman, Aspasia.
The complex story of jealousy and rivalry will be accompanied by the English Concert Orchestra, conducted by Schuldt.
